According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. CDT Monday for much of central, northern, northwest, east-central, southeast, and southern Oklahoma, including Norman, Oklahoma City, Edmond, Yukon, Moore, Stillwater, Enid, Shawnee, Ardmore, and dozens of surrounding communities. Heat index values are expected to reach 107 degrees, creating an elevated risk of heat-related illness for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
Late Monday morning still offers manageable conditions, but temperatures will climb rapidly through the afternoon. Sunshine and a steady southwest breeze will push actual highs near 99 degrees, while humidity drives the heat index several degrees higher. Outdoor workers, youth sports participants, and anyone attending afternoon events should schedule frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and seek air conditioning whenever possible.
Drivers along Interstate 35, Interstate 40, and Interstate 44 should keep extra water in their vehicles. High pavement temperatures increase the chance of tire problems, while anyone stranded outdoors could quickly experience dangerous heat exposure.
The hot pattern strengthens Tuesday. Meteorologists expect sunny skies with a high near 103 degrees, while heat index values may climb as high as 108 degrees during the afternoon. Little cloud cover and light winds will allow the intense sunshine to dominate much of the day.
By Wednesday, highs ease slightly to around 99 degrees, but conditions remain well above average for late July. Thursday brings another surge toward 100 degrees, extending the prolonged stretch of dangerous summer heat across central Oklahoma.
The broader national weather pattern continues to favor hazardous heat from the Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley early this week, with heat indices approaching 110 to 115 degrees in some neighboring regions. While those highest values are expected outside central Oklahoma, residents should still prepare for several consecutive days of dangerous afternoon heat.
