According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Monday until 8 p.m. CDT Tuesday across much of Middle Tennessee, including Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Clarksville, Lebanon, Gallatin, Cookeville, Columbia, Shelbyville, and surrounding communities. Heat index values are expected to reach 108 degrees, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Late Monday morning still offers relatively manageable conditions, but temperatures will rise quickly through the afternoon. Highs are expected to reach 96 degrees, while humidity pushes the apparent temperature well above 100. Drink water before feeling thirsty, take frequent breaks in air conditioning, and check on older neighbors and anyone without reliable cooling.
Motorists on Interstates 24, 40, and 65 should prepare for extreme vehicle temperatures after even short stops. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, where interior temperatures can rise rapidly.
A few thunderstorms may develop between early afternoon and late afternoon Monday, with about a 30 percent chance of rain. Most communities stay dry, but any storm could briefly reduce visibility and produce gusty winds.
Tuesday brings even greater heat. High temperatures approach 99 degrees, while heat index values may climb as high as 114 degrees during the afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms remain possible before more widespread showers and thunderstorms develop Tuesday evening into the night. Heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and locally gusty winds could affect the evening commute, although widespread severe weather is not currently expected.
By Wednesday, highs ease slightly to around 89 degrees. A lingering chance of afternoon thunderstorms remains before drier air gradually settles into the region. Thursday turns mostly sunny with highs in the middle 80s, offering a modest break from the early-week heat.
Long-range outlooks continue to favor above-normal temperatures returning later next week, suggesting the midsummer warmth will remain a dominant weather story across Tennessee.
