Oklahoma City, OK – A summer weather alert remains in place for Oklahoma City as widespread thunderstorms continue through Saturday, raising concerns about urban flooding and dangerous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Flood Watch is active until Saturday afternoon for central, north-central, and southern Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City. Rainfall rates could exceed one inch per hour in localized storms, pushing creeks, streams, and storm drains to capacity. Areas along I-44 and I-35 may be especially prone to ponding and flash flooding during peak downpours.
By Saturday evening, the threat diminishes as storms taper and skies begin clearing. Saturday night will be mostly clear with lows near 68°F and calming winds — a welcome break after a soggy 36 hours.
Sunday will bring drier skies with only a slight chance of isolated storms late in the afternoon and a high near 90°F. Monday morning could see a few lingering showers, but much of the day remains dry with highs in the low 80s. Expect partly sunny skies on Tuesday and warming temperatures heading into midweek.
