Cleveland, Ohio – Northeast Ohio is entering an active stretch of weather as thunderstorms become increasingly likely tonight, with the greatest potential for severe storms arriving Monday evening into Monday night ahead of a cold front.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, scattered thunderstorms are possible beginning tonight, but the highest confidence for severe weather comes Monday evening through Monday night. While forecasters continue refining the timing and exact locations, damaging wind gusts remain the primary hazard with any storms that become severe.
The Storm Prediction Center places much of northern Ohio under a Level 1 of 5 Marginal Risk tonight, with a broader Level 2 of 5 Slight Risk expanding across much of the region on Monday. Communities including Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Lorain, Sandusky, Mansfield, Wooster, Ashtabula and Findlay should closely monitor forecast updates as the cold front approaches.
Drivers on Interstate 71, Interstate 77, Interstate 80, Interstate 90 and the Ohio Turnpike could encounter rapidly changing conditions during the Monday evening commute if thunderstorms intensify. Strong wind gusts may bring down tree limbs, cause scattered power outages and create hazardous travel, while locally heavy rainfall could briefly reduce visibility on area roadways.
