Athens County, OH Theft: 200 Pounds of Copper Stolen

Athens County, OH – Authorities are investigating after approximately 200 pounds of copper was reported stolen from a utility vehicle over the weekend in Dover Township.

According to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Dover Township on Monday, Aug. 17, after receiving a report of the theft.

The caller told investigators that approximately 200 pounds of copper had been taken from a utility vehicle sometime during the weekend.

Deputies took a report and photographed and documented the scene as part of the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the owner of the vehicle or provide an estimated value for the missing copper.

No arrests or suspect descriptions were announced in the department’s Monday media release. Additional details about where in Dover Township the vehicle was located or how the copper was allegedly removed were also not immediately available.

The copper theft was one of several incidents handled by Athens County deputies Monday.

In a separate case, deputies responded to O’Bleness Hospital to speak with a patient about an incident reported at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. Authorities said a report was taken and that the matter remains under investigation. No additional details about the nature of that incident were released.

Deputies also investigated a report involving an allegedly threatening phone call. The Sheriff’s Office said deputies contacted the individual accused of making the threats and advised that person to stop further contact with the reporting party. A report was completed.
