Cincinnati, OH – Thanksgiving weekend will usher in a major cooldown across the Ohio Valley as a strong cold front sweeps through with rain, brisk winds, and a possible mix of wet snow late Sunday into Monday. The shift will mark the region’s transition from a mild Thanksgiving Day to an early winter pattern heading into December.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Wilmington, OH, and Louisville, KY, temperatures between November 28 and December 4 are expected to run well below normal, with daytime highs dropping into the 30s and 40s and overnight lows dipping into the 20s. A developing storm system tracking east from the Plains could spread steady rain Saturday, changing to a mix of snow or freezing drizzle by Sunday night—particularly across higher elevations of southern Ohio and eastern Kentucky.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, wet roads along I-70, I-71, and I-75 may turn slick as temperatures fall below freezing late Sunday. Gusty northwest winds of 25–30 mph will make it feel even colder, and scattered flurries could linger into Monday morning’s commute.

Travelers heading home from the holiday should allow extra time, dress in layers, and keep an emergency kit in the car. Residents are advised to protect pipes, outdoor plants, and pets as the first widespread freeze settles in by early next week.
