Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across the Ohio Valley region, including parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and northern West Virginia, are facing an elevated risk of severe weather through 9 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) upgraded northern West Virginia to a Level 3 “Enhanced Risk” earlier Monday, citing increasing confidence in the development of severe thunderstorms. The most severe conditions are expected south of Interstate 70, with isolated tornadoes, damaging winds over 75 mph, and large hail possible.

The threat window spans from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with localized downpours also likely. While Pittsburgh and surrounding western Pennsylvania counties remain in a lower Level 1 to 2 risk zone, nearby areas such as Morgantown, WV, and Zanesville, OH, may see more intense storm development.

Emergency officials advise residents to monitor local alerts and ensure they can receive weather warnings. “An enhanced risk means several storms could be significant,” the NWS noted.

To stay safe, secure loose outdoor items, charge electronic devices in advance, and avoid travel during peak storm hours. This event marks one of the more active severe weather threats of April for the tri-state region.
