Louisville, KY – Major flooding remains a critical issue across the lower Ohio Valley, as rivers across Kentucky, Indiana, and surrounding areas continue to swell from last week’s historic rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, significant moderate to major flooding is ongoing along the Green, Wabash, and Ohio Rivers as of Monday morning. The Green River at Calhoun Lock and Dam and the Wabash River at New Harmony remain above major flood stage and are projected to begin receding slowly by midweek.
River levels peaked Monday morning and are at or near crest in many areas, with widespread flooding in lowlands and agricultural fields. Flash flooding is no longer expected, but standing water continues to block roads, damage farmland, and impact travel near river communities like Evansville, IN, and Owensboro, KY.
Residents are urged to avoid flood-prone areas and heed all local safety alerts. Emergency officials continue monitoring levees and bridges for structural stress.
As waters begin to drain toward the Mississippi River, forecasters expect gradual improvement by Wednesday, though full recovery may take several more days in rural communities.
