Cleveland, Ohio – Swimmers and beachgoers along the Lake Erie shoreline should prepare for a hot, sunny Sunday, with water temperatures in the mid-70s and a “very high” UV index expected to peak across western and eastern Ohio beaches.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, maximum air temperatures will reach the upper 70s to low 80s Sunday afternoon, with wave heights holding steady at 1 foot or less through the day. The primary concern for Thursday will be the UV index, which is forecast to remain very high. Anyone heading to Avon Point, Vermillion, Geneva-on-the-Lake, or Conneaut should apply sunscreen frequently and seek shade during peak sun hours.

The risk of rip currents remains low for all monitored zones, including Maumee Bay, Willowick, and the Islands. Swimmers should still observe all posted warnings and swim near lifeguards. Water temperatures will be comfortable—mid-70s in the west and east, but only mid-60s in central sections near Reno Beach.

A marginal risk of severe thunderstorms persists for northwest Ohio Thursday evening, potentially shifting to northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania by Monday. Brief heavy rain and locally damaging wind gusts are possible in stronger storms, so beach visitors should monitor alerts closely.

Swimmers are urged to avoid long sun exposure, stay hydrated, and keep a close watch on weather updates. More advisories may be issued if thunderstorm threats intensify.
