Ohio River Flooding Continues in Kentucky and Indiana

Louisville, KY – Flooding along the Ohio River is ongoing, affecting multiple counties in Kentucky and Indiana as water levels remain above flood stage. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville has extended flood warnings for several locations along the river, with minor to moderate flooding expected through early next week.

According to the NWS, the Ohio River at McAlpine Lower is experiencing minor flooding, with water levels at 59.1 feet as of Friday morning, exceeding the flood stage of 55 feet. The river is expected to drop below flood stage by Saturday evening. Areas in Clarksville and New Albany, Indiana, as well as sections of US 31W in Kentucky, are impacted.

In Tell City, Indiana, moderate flooding is occurring, with water levels at 45 feet as of Friday morning. The river is expected to crest at 45.3 feet before beginning to recede. Indiana Highway 66 has been affected in multiple locations, and floodgates in Hawesville, Kentucky, are closed.

Additional flooding is occurring at the Cannelton Lock and Dam, where water levels have reached 46.2 feet, surpassing the flood stage of 42 feet. Water is expected to recede below flood stage by Monday evening.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to avoid flooded roads and riverbanks. The next flood update from the NWS is expected Saturday afternoon.
