Mobile, AL – Flood warnings remain in effect for multiple rivers across Alabama and Mississippi as water levels continue to rise due to recent rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, minor flooding is occurring along the Tombigbee River near Leroy in Clarke and Washington counties. The river, currently at 26.8 feet, is expected to fall below its 24-foot flood stage early Sunday morning. Flooded pasturelands and low-lying roads are being impacted.
Further upstream, the Tombigbee River near Coffeeville Dam, affecting Clarke, Washington, and Choctaw counties, remains above its 29-foot flood stage, with waters at 32.7 feet as of Friday morning. Forecasters expect the river to drop below flood stage by Saturday morning.
In Mississippi, the Chickasawhay River at Leakesville, impacting George and Greene counties, has also exceeded its 20-foot flood stage, reaching 20.2 feet. However, levels are expected to recede below flood stage later Friday afternoon.
Residents in low-lying areas are urged to monitor conditions, avoid flooded roads, and relocate livestock as necessary. Further updates will be provided as conditions change.
