Paducah, KY – Recent heavy rains have led to rising waters along the Ohio River, prompting flood warnings for several locations in Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri. The National Weather Service in Paducah issued extended warnings Friday morning as moderate to minor flooding continues.
According to the NWS, affected areas include Smithland Dam, Cairo, Paducah, and Olmsted Lock and Dam. The Ohio River at Olmsted Lock and Dam is experiencing moderate flooding, with water levels at 42.7 feet as of Friday morning. Forecasters expect levels to drop below flood stage by Saturday, March 1.
In Paducah, minor flooding is occurring with a recorded river stage of 43.0 feet. Floodwaters are projected to recede below flood stage by next Friday, February 28. Similarly, Cairo is seeing minor flooding, with water levels at 44.4 feet, expected to subside by March 1.
Residents in low-lying areas should remain vigilant and avoid driving through flooded roads. Motorists are urged not to bypass barricades. Officials will continue monitoring conditions as water levels gradually recede.
