Jefferson Township, OH – An Ohio man, 23-year-old Nicko Matthews-Cooper, is wanted as a suspect in an alleged robbery-turned-homicide early Sunday near Licking Heights West Elementary School.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting at 2:03 a.m. on the 1400 block of Climbing Fig Drive. Deputies found 21-year-old Kaelan Amerson with multiple gunshot wounds. Amerson was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Authorities allege Matthews-Cooper attempted to rob Amerson during a suspected drug transaction involving four others. Matthews-Cooper, the suspected shooter, reportedly fired multiple shots into Amerson’s vehicle before fleeing. Two passengers were also struck by gunfire but suffered only minor injuries.

Amerson’s car veered off the road and crashed into a yard on Narrow Leaf Drive, about a block from the shooting scene. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office have charged Matthews-Cooper with murder. However, his current whereabouts are unknown, and the search for the suspect is ongoing.

Anyone with information, including surveillance footage, is urged to contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at (614) 525-3351. Anonymous tips are welcome.
