Washington Parish, LA – A tragic crash on LA Hwy 25 near Stafford Road Sunday evening claimed three lives and critically injured three others, including two children.
Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the collision around 6:30 p.m. Investigators said an 18-year-old driving a Chevrolet Silverado crossed the centerline and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on.
Three people in the Tahoe, including 42-year-old Tequilla Santee, 11-year-old Daniya Carter, and 3-year-old Dylan Wilson, all from Covington, were killed. Two passengers in the Tahoe sustained critical injuries. One was wearing a seat belt; the other was not.
The Silverado’s driver, Logan Schmalz, also suffered critical injuries. Police are still investigating the cause and are conducting toxicology tests on both drivers.
Louisiana law enforcement emphasized the importance of seat belt use. Properly restrained occupants have a significantly higher chance of surviving crashes. Officials are urging drivers to secure all passengers and follow traffic laws to prevent future tragedies.
