Cleveland, OH – A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is set to impact Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania starting Wednesday afternoon, continuing through early Thursday morning. Ice Storm Warnings are in effect for Lucas, Wood, and Ottawa counties, with Winter Weather Advisories covering much of northwest Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland, ice accumulations of at least a quarter of an inch are expected in the Ice Storm Warning areas. Power outages and tree damage are possible due to ice buildup, and slick roads will create hazardous travel conditions. The surrounding advisory areas may see up to one-tenth of an inch of ice, with some locations receiving higher amounts. Snow and sleet accumulations of around one inch are also forecasted.
This marks the first Ice Storm Warning for the region since February 12, 2019—exactly six years ago. Residents are advised to limit travel, as roads will be dangerously slick through Thursday morning. Those who must travel should prepare for icy conditions and potential delays.
The wintry mix is expected to transition to rain by Thursday afternoon as temperatures rise. Stay updated on weather conditions through NWS Cleveland and local emergency services.
