Athens, Ohio – Flooded roads and rising creeks continue to disrupt life across southeast Ohio this morning as a Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, widespread flooding from excessive rainfall is impacting Athens, Jackson, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, and Vinton counties. Sunday Creek is overflowing in Glouster, Trimble, and Jacksonville, with numerous roads reported closed.

Communities including Athens, Nelsonville, Wellston, and McArthur are seeing flooding in low-lying areas, with major impacts near Lake Hope State Park and along village routes in Buchtel, Chauncey, and Coalton. Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid submerged roads, especially near creeks and streambeds where water levels remain dangerous.

Residents are advised to remain alert for fast-changing conditions, especially in flood-prone areas like Hemlock, Corning, and New Straitsville. Use extreme caution during morning travel, and avoid non-essential trips if possible.

The Flood Warning is expected to expire by late morning, but additional rainfall or runoff could extend localized issues. Stay tuned for further updates and never attempt to cross flooded roads.
