Oak Park, IL – Residents of Oak Park are being warned to stay alert after multiple reports of a door-to-door scam targeting homeowners with misleading electricity offers.

According to the Oak Park Police Department, the alert follows recent complaints about an alleged solicitor who has been visiting homes under the guise of offering lower electricity rates. These individuals may request to see a resident’s utility bill or account number, which could lead to unauthorized switches to costlier providers.

The Village of Oak Park, along with its official electricity supplier, MC Squared Energy Services, emphasized that neither they nor their representatives ever solicit customers in person or by phone. Officials noted that the scammers frequently promise a low introductory rate but often switch residents to more expensive plans after obtaining account details.

Authorities urge residents to exercise caution, never provide utility information to unsolicited visitors, and verify all electricity-related communications through official channels. For tips on avoiding scams or verifying energy service providers, the Village has provided more details at www.oak-park.us/electricscam.

Residents who suspect a scam or have been approached are encouraged to report the incident to the Oak Park Police Department immediately.
