Pittsburgh, PA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in place for Mercer, Venango, Forest, Clarion, and Jefferson counties until 1 p.m. Friday, with hazardous snowfall rates expected to impact travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour could develop under a narrow snow band Thursday night, potentially leading to additional accumulations of 1 to 4 inches. Gusty winds reaching 40 mph are likely to contribute to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions.

The warning highlights significant travel concerns, particularly during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. Drivers are advised to prepare for hazardous roadways and carry an emergency kit with essentials such as a flashlight, food, and water.

The snow band’s intensity and duration in specific areas will determine final snow totals. Residents in the affected counties are urged to monitor updates and use the Pennsylvania 511 system for the latest road conditions.

Stay off the roads if possible, and exercise caution when traveling to ensure safety during this winter weather event.
