Toledo, OH – Temperatures will fall to 34°F by 2 a.m. Sunday, triggering frost formation across northwest Ohio that could damage plants and disrupt early morning activity through mid-morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday for Lucas and Wood counties. A Freeze Watch follows Sunday evening through Monday morning, when temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s, increasing the risk of more widespread damage.
The coldest conditions will occur just before sunrise, especially in far northern Wood County and across much of Lucas County, including Toledo, Perrysburg, and Bowling Green. Frost is expected to form on lawns, rooftops, and vehicles, with patchy ground fog possible in rural areas. Roads should remain dry, but drivers may need extra time to clear frost from windshields during the morning commute.
A more significant threat develops Sunday night. Subfreezing temperatures could kill sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to cover or bring in plants, disconnect hoses, and insulate exposed pipes. Gardeners and farmers should act now to protect early-season growth.
Conditions improve after 10 a.m. Sunday, but temperatures will drop quickly again after sunset. Additional alerts may be issued as confidence increases in the Monday morning freeze.
