Loudoun County, VA – Two suspects are in custody following an attempted jewelry robbery in Ashburn, as investigators link them to a series of similar theft incidents across Loudoun County and the surrounding Northern Virginia region.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests were made Tuesday, April 22, after deputies identified a vehicle connected to multiple recent cases involving distraction techniques used to steal jewelry from victims.
Authorities say the latest incident occurred in the 41000 block of Misty Dawn Drive in Ashburn. The victim, an adult woman, was not injured during the attempted robbery.
During the investigation, deputies located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Route 50 west of Middleburg, where both individuals were taken into custody without incident.
The suspects, identified as Denisa Ghiocel, 31, and Dorel Ghiocel, 35, are each charged with attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Officials say both are being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Investigators believe the pair may be connected to as many as eight incidents over the past 30 days, where victims were targeted using distraction methods to remove jewelry. Authorities also noted the suspects may be part of a broader criminal network operating in the region.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
