Reno, Nev. – A prolonged stretch of dry, hot weather is settling over Reno this week, with temperatures climbing to 94°F by Friday and no rain in sight — heightening concerns over fire danger across Northern Nevada.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, the region will remain mostly sunny and dry through at least Saturday, with daily highs ranging from 88°F to 94°F and overnight lows in the mid-50s to low 60s. Winds are expected to stay light, generally under 10 mph, which may help slightly mitigate wildfire spread but won’t ease the elevated risk.
Cities across Washoe County, including Sparks and Sun Valley, will feel the brunt of the heat, especially in the afternoons. Rural areas could see even drier conditions, increasing the chance of grass fires. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, stay hydrated, and reduce energy use during peak hours.
The warm pattern may briefly break Monday night, when a slight chance of showers is possible above 7,400 feet, though valley areas will likely stay dry.
Hot and dry conditions are expected to persist into early next week. Fire weather alerts could be issued if winds increase.
