Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is bracing for heavy lake effect snow through Thursday night, with hazardous travel expected across Chippewa and Antrim counties. Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are forecast, with localized areas receiving up to 8 inches, especially near Whitefish Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snow bands will intensify overnight into Thursday, creating reduced visibility and slick roads. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated across the northwest snow belts, particularly in higher elevation areas. Commuters are advised to exercise caution during the Thursday morning commute, as road conditions could change rapidly.
Temperatures will remain below freezing, further complicating travel conditions. Localized heavy snow bands are likely to cause delays on major highways, including portions of US-2 and M-28.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and check road conditions before traveling. Snowplows will be active in affected areas, but drivers should still prepare for extended travel times.
