Detroit, MI – Michigan residents could experience a stunning natural light show as the Northern Lights are forecasted to be visible Monday night into Tuesday. The geomagnetic activity is expected to be strong enough to push the aurora borealis as far south as Michigan.

The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center indicates that the geomagnetic storm index could reach a Kp level of 6-7, making the Northern Lights visible in Michigan. Optimal viewing times are predicted to be between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Eastern Time, assuming the skies are clear.

The aurora borealis, known for its beautiful displays of green, pink, and red lights, occurs when solar particles collide with Earth’s magnetic field. Residents are encouraged to seek out dark, open areas away from city lights for the best viewing experience. Checking local weather conditions for cloud cover and using real-time aurora activity trackers can enhance viewing opportunities.
