Fort Wayne, IN – A winter weather advisory is in effect across northern Indiana today, with snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected by evening. Motorists traveling along I-69 and I-90 should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during periods of heavier snow bursts.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, the advisory is active from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, with moderate snow showers and westerly gusts up to 20 mph expected overnight. These conditions could lead to blowing and drifting snow, making travel hazardous. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and allow extra time for commutes.
Temperatures will remain below freezing today, with a high near 26°F and lows dropping to 22°F tonight. Snowfall may taper off early Saturday morning, but lingering winds will maintain icy conditions on roads.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of snow before temperatures plunge. Sunday and Monday will see highs in the low 20s and overnight lows dropping into the single digits, with wind chills potentially below zero.
Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather alerts and report local snow measurements to the National Weather Service. To measure snowfall accurately, use a 24-inch board placed in an open area and record totals to the nearest tenth of an inch.
Stay safe this weekend by monitoring road conditions and preparing for colder temperatures through the early week.
