Sioux Falls, SD – South Dakota residents should prepare for light snow and a sharp drop in temperatures starting this weekend. Breezy conditions and snowfall are expected to develop Saturday afternoon, with colder Arctic air arriving early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, flurries could start Saturday evening, particularly in areas east of the James River. Snowfall is forecast to accumulate up to half an inch, with breezy winds possibly causing minor travel disruptions, especially on Highway 11 and I-29. Flurries will linger into Sunday before temperatures plunge further.

Saturday’s highs will range between 32 and 39 degrees, but colder air arrives Sunday, with highs dropping to the low 20s and lows nearing zero. Monday and Tuesday will see daytime highs only between 12 and 18 degrees, with wind chills falling below zero during the night. Breezy conditions could make outdoor activities uncomfortable.

Drivers should remain cautious on potentially slick roads this weekend, as visibility may be reduced in areas with snow showers. Residents are urged to dress warmly and monitor weather updates closely for changes.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast predicts mostly dry but frigid conditions early next week. While the snow will taper off by Sunday evening, Monday will bring sunny skies paired with freezing winds. Tuesday’s highs will stay in the teens, with overnight lows dipping into single digits.

Stay tuned for updates on winter conditions, and plan accordingly for safe travel during snowy and icy periods.
