Fort Wayne, IN — Northern Indiana is now experiencing moderate drought conditions, affecting Adams, Wells, Jay, and Blackford counties. This development follows a significant lack of rainfall throughout August, with no substantial precipitation expected in the coming days.

According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, these drought conditions are most pronounced south of Fort Wayne and into northwest Ohio. Residents should be mindful of water usage as dry conditions are set to persist. The current forecast indicates that an extended period of dry weather is likely, exacerbating the drought’s effects across the region.

In addition to the drought, cooler temperatures are expected to filter into Northern Indiana through Labor Day. Scattered showers along the US 24 corridor will taper off by Saturday afternoon, offering little relief from the dry spell. The US National Weather Service also warns of dangerous swimming conditions at southeast Lake Michigan beaches from Sunday into early Monday. Beachgoers should stay out of the water during this period due to life-threatening waves and currents.
