South Bend, Indiana – A line of showers and isolated thunderstorms is moving across northern Indiana Wednesday afternoon, with strong wind gusts posing the main threat through late evening.
According to the US National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, there is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms through tonight, with the strongest winds likely before midnight. Widespread severe conditions are not expected, but rain will be most persistent overnight and could impact early morning commutes on Thursday.
Tonight, cities like Fort Wayne, Elkhart, and South Bend could see a 60–80% chance of rain, with isolated storms bringing gusty winds and low visibility. By Thursday morning, rain chances drop to 30–60%, with precipitation ending from west to east. Cooler temperatures in the 50s and 60s will follow behind the front.
Drivers should reduce speed during wet conditions, especially along US-6 and other east-west corridors. Morning travelers are advised to allow extra time and avoid flooded roadways.
Although Friday looks drier with only a 20–40% rain chance, another round of isolated showers is possible, mainly south of US-6.
Warnings remain in effect through early Thursday morning. Stay tuned for updates from NWS Northern Indiana.
