Indianapolis, Indiana – High winds and severe thunderstorms are expected to batter Central Indiana through Friday, with gusts up to 60 mph posing the greatest threat to drivers and power lines Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered thunderstorms began rolling into the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging winds, lightning, and heavy downpours. A marginal risk for severe storms continues each day into Friday.

Indianapolis, Muncie, and Bloomington are likely to experience rounds of strong storms Thursday and Friday, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Roads like I-70 and I-65 may become hazardous due to wind-blown debris or reduced visibility. Utility crews are on alert for possible outages caused by falling tree limbs or power lines.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts. Those traveling should avoid unnecessary trips during high wind periods, especially in high-profile vehicles.

Thunderstorm activity is expected to taper off Friday evening, though isolated showers could linger into early Saturday. Additional watches or warnings may be issued if storm intensity increases.
