Eureka, CA – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of Northern California, with snow and gusty winds expected to impact travel conditions through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, snowfall will begin early Friday, affecting areas above 1,500 feet in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake counties. Accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are forecasted, with heavier snow expected along mountain passes, including Highway 299 at Berry Summit and Highway 199 at Collier Tunnel. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, further reducing visibility and making travel hazardous.

The advisory is in place from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for Mendocino and Lake counties, and from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. for Del Norte and Humboldt counties. Roads such as Highway 101 at Prairie Creek Summit, Ridgewood Summit, and Rattlesnake Summit could experience icy conditions, requiring drivers to slow down and use caution.

Travelers are urged to check road conditions before heading out by calling 511 and to carry tire chains if traveling through mountain passes. The hazardous conditions may impact the Friday morning commute, particularly in higher elevations.
