Subfreezing temperatures and icy wind chills are gripping Louisiana, northeast Texas, and nearby regions, creating hazardous conditions into Tuesday morning. Wind chills as low as 7°F and subfreezing temperatures are expected to impact travel, agriculture, and plumbing systems.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport, the Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory are in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Affected areas include portions of southern Arkansas, southeast Oklahoma, northeast Texas, and north-central Louisiana, including Shreveport and Bossier City. Residents should bundle up, as exposed skin can suffer frostbite in prolonged conditions.

Drivers on key roadways, including I-20 through Shreveport and I-49 heading south, should remain cautious, as icy patches could form overnight. Schools and businesses in some areas may announce delayed openings due to dangerous morning conditions.

The frigid temperatures will moderate slightly by Tuesday afternoon, with highs near 36°F and clear skies. Warmer weather is expected midweek, with highs reaching 43°F on Wednesday and 52°F by Thursday. However, overnight lows will remain below freezing through Wednesday night, increasing risks to crops and outdoor plumbing.

Residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors, keep pets indoors, and ensure outdoor faucets are protected. Use caution when traveling and wear layered clothing to stay warm.
