Ohio – An Arctic blast has brought frigid temperatures and sub-zero wind chills to Cleveland and surrounding areas, creating hazardous conditions through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cleveland, wind chills are expected to plummet as low as -25°F tonight, with sub-zero conditions persisting through midweek. A cold weather advisory remains in effect for much of northern and northeastern Ohio, including Cuyahoga and surrounding counties, until 10 a.m. Wednesday. The arctic air mass is also impacting major roadways, such as I-90 and I-480, where drivers are warned to expect icy patches and reduced visibility.
Temperatures today will remain in the single digits, while overnight lows could dip to -6°F. On Tuesday, the high will only reach 9°F, with wind chills ranging between -15°F and -20°F throughout the day. Wednesday offers slight relief, with temperatures climbing to the mid-teens, but wind chills will still hover dangerously low in the morning hours.
The Ohio Department of Transportation urges drivers to limit travel where possible and to keep emergency kits in their vehicles. Residents are advised to dress in layers, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors or family members.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to slowly moderate starting Thursday, with highs near 27°F, but another round of snow showers may bring fresh challenges to the region.
Keep pets indoors, wrap exposed pipes to prevent freezing, and avoid using outdoor heaters indoors to stay safe during this extended arctic outbreak.
