Fort Worth, Texas – North Texas is settling into a prolonged stretch of hot, dry summer weather, with temperatures steadily climbing through the week before many communities reach triple digits by the Fourth of July weekend. Afternoon heat index values are expected to approach 105 degrees, while gusty south winds and a lack of meaningful rainfall will add to the uncomfortable conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Monday begins a repetitive pattern of dry, hot and breezy weather that is expected to continue through at least the holiday weekend. High temperatures will generally remain in the middle to upper 90s through Friday before widespread 100-degree highs arrive Saturday and Sunday across portions of North Texas.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is expected to climb from 98 degrees Monday to 99 degrees Friday, with highs reaching 100 degrees Saturday and Sunday. Waco is forecast to remain in the middle to upper 90s through the week before reaching 98 degrees Saturday and 99 degrees Sunday. Other communities, including Graham, Sherman, Paris, Denton, Killeen, Temple and Palestine, will experience similarly hot conditions, with afternoon heat index values ranging from the upper 90s to near 105 degrees.

South winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 25 to 35 mph, will continue through the first part of the week. While the breeze may offer brief relief, it will also increase evaporation and contribute to dry conditions. The National Weather Service notes that only low rain chances may develop across far eastern Texas late in the weekend, with most of North Texas expected to remain dry.

Residents planning outdoor activities ahead of the Independence Day holiday should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon. Loose outdoor items should also be secured because of the gusty winds, and children and pets should never be left inside parked vehicles.
