China, ME – An Oakland man is facing a felony charge after Maine State Police say he allegedly stabbed another man during an early morning incident in the Town of China before fleeing the scene.
According to the Maine State Police, troopers responded to a reported stabbing at approximately 12:54 a.m. Tuesday, July 21. Investigators determined that 36-year-old Jacob Hebert of Lewiston allegedly stabbed a 47-year-old man from Oakland before leaving the area in a black Jeep Cherokee.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
Police said the investigation determined the suspect and victim were acquainted, and authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. A temporary arrest warrant was issued after Hebert was not immediately located.
At approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, investigators received information that Hebert had returned to the area. A Maine State Police trooper located the suspect’s Jeep on Deer Hill Road and monitored the vehicle until additional units arrived.
Authorities conducted a traffic stop, and Hebert was taken into custody without incident.
Hebert has been charged with Elevated Aggravated Assault and was transported to the Kennebec County Jail, where he is being held without bail, according to police.
