Fort Worth, Texas – Anyone spending time outdoors across North and Central Texas should take precautions immediately as dangerous summer heat continues through the week, with afternoon temperatures soaring well into the triple digits and heat index values climbing as high as 115 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, high temperatures will remain in the upper 90s to lower 100s across the region through at least Saturday. The combination of intense sunshine and humidity will produce heat index values between 105 and 115 degrees, significantly increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke during prolonged outdoor activity.
The hottest conditions will stretch from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex south through Waco, Temple and Killeen. Dallas and Fort Worth are expected to reach 104 degrees Wednesday, 100 degrees Thursday, 102 degrees Friday, and 102 degrees Saturday. Farther south, Waco, Temple and Killeen will see highs around 102 degrees Wednesday, 100 degrees Thursday, and 99 degrees Friday and Saturday.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activities during the afternoon, wear lightweight clothing and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces if working outside. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, where temperatures can become deadly within minutes.
Forecasters are also monitoring a tropical system in the Gulf, which is expected to bring increased moisture into North Texas later this week and into the weekend. While the added moisture may increase cloud cover and rain chances, dangerous heat is expected to remain a concern. Additional heat alerts may be issued as conditions evolve.
