Grand Forks, North Dakota – Slippery roads are already impacting parts of eastern North Dakota early Friday as a slow-moving band of snow and wintry mix pushes across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected in the Devils Lake Basin, including areas near Langdon, Cando, and New Rockford, with snowfall ending by around 9 a.m. As the system shifts east after daybreak, a mix of snow and light ice will extend toward Grand Forks and Valley City, gradually weakening through the morning.

Road conditions are expected to be most hazardous west of the Red River early, especially along U.S. Highway 2 and surrounding rural routes where snow accumulation has already begun. As the wintry mix spreads east, drivers in Grand Forks, Mayville, and nearby communities could encounter slick bridges and untreated roads during the morning commute.

Travelers should reduce speeds and allow extra stopping distance, particularly in areas transitioning from snow to mixed precipitation. Conditions will slowly improve late this morning as precipitation tapers off and temperatures stabilize.

The system is expected to weaken significantly by midday, though brief travel impacts may linger where slush and ice remain on roadways.
