Grand Forks, ND – Severe thunderstorms are expected across parts of North Dakota and west central Minnesota today, prompting a level 2 out of 5 risk alert. The areas affected include Wahpeton, Fergus Falls, and Wadena, with the potential for scattered severe storms bringing golf ball-sized hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph.

According to the US National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the severe weather threat is highest midday through early evening. Residents in the affected areas should remain vigilant and prepared for sudden weather changes. The primary risks include large hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of tornadoes.

Elsewhere in the region, a lower risk level of 1 out of 5 is in place, with isolated severe storms possible. In these areas, hail could reach one inch in diameter and wind gusts may peak at 60 mph.

The forecast for Grand Forks shows a cloudy day with a high of 86°F and a 55% chance of precipitation. The rest of the week looks calmer, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s on Thursday and Friday, followed by partly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the low 80s over the weekend. By Monday, the forecast predicts cooler, partly cloudy weather with highs in the mid-70s.
