Charlotte, NC – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of western and central North Carolina, as well as parts of northeast Georgia, from 6 a.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday. Residents should prepare for hazardous road conditions as snow, ice, and gusty winds create dangerous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, the North Carolina mountains and northeast Georgia could see up to 3 inches of snow on ridgetops, while lower elevations may get less than an inch. Ice accumulation is expected to create slick roads, especially late Wednesday into Thursday morning. Winds could gust up to 40 mph, increasing the risk of downed tree limbs and isolated power outages.
Further east, including Charlotte, Gastonia, and Hickory, snowfall will be lighter, with accumulations up to an inch, though ice could make roads treacherous. Commuters in the region should be prepared for slippery conditions, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening rush hours.
Officials advise slowing down, using caution while driving, and checking road conditions via 511 before traveling. Residents should also prepare for potential power outages and avoid unnecessary travel during peak ice accumulation.
