Wilmington, NC – North Carolina residents can expect a significant change in the weather pattern as cooler, drier air moves in today, bringing a welcome relief from the summer heat. Highs are forecasted to reach the mid-80s across much of the state, with Wilmington and Florence both expecting temperatures of 85°F, while Lumberton and Myrtle Beach will hover around 84°F.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front that moved offshore this morning is responsible for the cooler and more comfortable conditions. The air will be noticeably drier, with lows tonight dipping into the mid-60s, giving residents a preview of the upcoming fall season. In addition, the meteorological fall is only a week and a half away, signaling the end of the summer heat.

Further inland, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected south of Highway 70 this afternoon. While some areas may experience brief downpours, the storms are not expected to be severe. For areas not impacted by these showers, the weather will remain dry with dew points steadily dropping into the 60s, making for a more comfortable day overall.

Looking ahead, the forecast continues to trend toward cooler and more stable weather. Wednesday and Thursday will see highs in the low 80s, with plenty of sunshine to enjoy. Friday may bring another round of showers with a 40% chance of rain, but the weekend looks mostly clear, with highs remaining in the low to mid-80s. As North Carolina transitions toward fall, residents can look forward to more comfortable weather and the beginning of the cooler months ahead.
