Morehead City, N.C. – Warm, sticky air returns to coastal North Carolina on Wednesday, with highs climbing into the mid-80s and a chance for afternoon thunderstorms driven by the Seabreeze effect.

According to the National Weather Service in Morehead City, scattered storms are possible Wednesday afternoon from Jacksonville to Kill Devil Hills, with localized downpours most likely near the coast between 1 and 5 p.m. While storms could briefly disrupt outdoor plans, winds and seas are expected to be lighter than earlier in the week, improving conditions for boaters and beachgoers.

Cities including New Bern, Greenville, and Plymouth will see daytime highs around 85°F, with muggy conditions lasting into the evening. Roads could become slick during storms, and localized lightning may affect outdoor activities and marine operations. Residents are urged to monitor radar apps and secure loose outdoor items.

This marks a return to typical early-summer weather, following recent breezy days along the coast. Thursday is expected to bring similar heat and storm chances, with afternoon Seabreeze activity likely to repeat.
