Wilmington, NC – Coastal regions of Southeast North Carolina and Northeast South Carolina are under an extended Flood Watch today due to potential heavy rainfall. The saturated grounds, a result of the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, have led to increased flood risks in these areas. Residents and visitors are urged to stay informed as conditions may rapidly change.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Wilmington, NC, the recent high surf has started to subside, but it continues to contribute to a High Rip Current Risk along all beaches. This risk is particularly pronounced near groins, jetties, reefs, and piers, where rip currents can be especially strong and dangerous.
Today’s weather is expected to bring additional showers and thunderstorms, further exacerbating the flood potential. Temperatures in Wilmington will range between 75°F and 85°F, with cloud cover persisting throughout the day. The weekend will see a slight decrease in rainfall with Saturday’s chances at 55% and Sunday at 60%. Highs will approach the upper 80s, offering some respite from the recent stormy conditions. However, beachgoers should remain cautious as rip currents could persist into the weekend.
