Raleigh, NC – A heat advisory is in effect today for much of central North Carolina, with dangerously high temperatures expected to persist throughout the day. The National Weather Service in Raleigh warns that the heat index could reach as high as 107°F in some areas, creating a significant risk for heat-related illnesses. The advisory is in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM, urging residents to take precautions as the midday sun pushes temperatures into the mid-90s, with scattered late-day storms providing little relief.

According to the National Weather Service, this extreme heat could quickly lead to serious health risks, including heat stroke. Residents are advised to stay indoors as much as possible, keep hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours. It’s also crucial to check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those without access to air conditioning.

The extended forecast for Raleigh shows a slight reprieve in the coming days, with temperatures expected to drop to the upper 80s over the weekend, accompanied by a 50% chance of rain on Saturday and a 60% chance on Sunday. However, Monday and Tuesday will see a return to the high 80s, with humidity levels likely to keep the heat index high.
