Raleigh, N.C. – Scattered storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and isolated flash flooding are expected to move through central North Carolina late Monday afternoon into the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Level 2 severe weather risk is in effect for much of the central part of the state today, June 9. Isolated storms could begin forming by late afternoon, with storm activity increasing into the evening and continuing through early Tuesday. Wind gusts over 60 mph and localized heavy rainfall may lead to downed trees and urban flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.

Cities including Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and Sanford are within the enhanced risk zone. Residents along U.S. Routes 1, 64, and I-40 should prepare for potential delays and poor driving conditions after sunset. Emergency managers urge residents to secure outdoor items and charge electronic devices ahead of possible power outages.

While the day will start mostly sunny, conditions could deteriorate quickly by evening. This round of storms is part of a broader severe weather system sweeping through the Southeast.

Storms may persist into early Tuesday morning, and additional advisories could be issued. Stay alert for updates from local officials.
