Gaylord, Mich. – Isolated severe thunderstorms could roll across northern Michigan this afternoon, bringing the threat of damaging winds, hail, and heavy downpours between 2 and 10 p.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a line of storms is expected to develop west of the region and track eastward through the evening. While most storms will remain below severe levels, a few could intensify enough to produce winds over 60 mph and quarter-sized hail. Areas under the marginal risk include Roscommon, Cadillac, and Tawas City, with possible impacts extending into Gaylord, Alpena, and Mio.
Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Power outages and tree damage are possible with the stronger cells. If outdoors, secure loose objects and have a shelter plan ready. Localized flooding could occur in areas of repeated heavy rainfall.
Storms are expected to taper off late tonight, with a quieter pattern settling in for Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Weather Service warns that additional updates may be issued if storms intensify more than currently anticipated.
