North Carolina – Bright sun and warm coastal air are building fast, but changes are already lining up that will bring showers and shifting winds into Wilmington within the next 24 hours.

According to the National Weather Service, today stays mostly sunny with highs near 90°F before a pattern shift introduces a 40% chance of showers by Sunday afternoon. Winds will increase and shift, with gusts reaching up to 24 mph as a front approaches the Carolina coast.

Across Wilmington, Leland, and Belville, conditions remain dry and warm through the day, but drivers along US-17, US-74, and College Road should prepare for changing conditions by Sunday. Showers may develop quickly during the afternoon, leading to slick pavement and reduced visibility in bursts of rain.

Temperatures fall noticeably after the front passes. Highs drop from the low 80s Sunday to the mid-70s by Monday, bringing a cooler and less humid feel. Winds shift northwest, adding a breezy edge, especially near the Cape Fear River and coastal bridges.

Sunday night into early Monday stays mainly dry, but cooler air settles in with lows dipping into the upper 40s. No freezing concerns here, but the contrast will be noticeable after the recent warmth.

By Tuesday, sunshine returns with highs near 70°F, followed by a steady warm-up into midweek. Temperatures climb back into the 80s by Wednesday and Thursday, signaling a return to spring warmth with early hints of summer along the coast.
