A winter weather advisory remains in effect across portions of Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia until 1 p.m. Thursday as light snow and strong winds create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, up to one inch of additional snow is expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph in some areas. The advisory affects cities including Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville, Martinsville, and parts of southwest Virginia, northwest North Carolina, and southeastern West Virginia.
Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are likely to be slick. Drivers are urged to use caution, particularly during the morning commute. The hazardous conditions could impact travel on major highways, including I-81, I-77, and U.S. Route 29.
Residents should take precautions when walking on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, as surfaces may be icy. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 511.
