North Carolina starts the morning under a thick cloud deck, with a mild breeze and dry pavement for now. That window is short-lived as moisture builds quickly and conditions begin shifting across the Charlotte metro.
According to the National Weather Service, Charlotte, Concord, Gastonia, and Rock Hill will see a slight chance of showers early, but rain becomes likely after 3 p.m. Rain chances climb to 80% through the evening, with the peak impact window between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Roads along I-77, I-85, and I-485 could turn slick fast, especially in low-lying stretches and underpasses where water can pool within minutes.
This is part of a broader system pushing east from the Lower Mississippi Valley, drawing in Gulf moisture and supporting widespread showers and a few thunderstorms. While severe weather is limited, isolated storms could bring brief gusty winds or small hail, adding to travel disruptions.
Rain continues into Saturday morning, with steady showers and patchy fog reducing visibility during early weekend travel. Periods of moderate rain may linger into midday before gradually easing.
Conditions improve Sunday with sunshine and highs near 69°F, followed by a warming trend into the upper 70s Monday and near 80°F Tuesday. Another round of showers returns midweek as the pattern stays active.
Plan for slower travel during the 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. peak window, avoid water-covered roads, and allow extra time on major highways as rain spreads across the Charlotte area.
