Raleigh, NC – Severe thunderstorms are moving across central North Carolina, prompting multiple warnings for damaging winds and hail. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday for the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, severe storms with wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail were detected moving eastward at 35 mph. Areas impacted include Alamance, Randolph, Moore, Montgomery, Lee, and Chatham counties. Cities such as Graham, Siler City, Pittsboro, and Southern Pines are in the storm’s path.
The NWS advises residents to take shelter in sturdy structures and avoid windows as strong winds may cause damage to roofs, trees, and power lines. A Tornado Watch remains active, meaning conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.
In Alamance County, storms were observed near Jericho and northwest of Siler City, continuing east at 35 mph. Meanwhile, a separate severe storm system is moving northeast at 75 mph, affecting Franklinville, Ramseur, and the North Carolina Zoo area.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, monitor local weather updates, and prepare for potential power outages. If a tornado is spotted, seek shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
