Raleigh, NC – Unseasonably cold temperatures will grip central North Carolina through the weekend, bringing freezing mornings and brisk afternoons. Wind chills early Friday morning plunged into the teens across the Raleigh area, with highs struggling to reach 42 degrees by midday.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values will remain as low as 17 degrees today, while clear skies tonight will allow temperatures to drop to 22. Saturday will see slight relief as temperatures climb to 49 during the day, but morning wind chills could still dip into the low 20s.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, check on neighbors, and provide outdoor pets with adequate shelter. Heating safety is also critical—keep flammable materials three feet away from heaters, and never use stoves or ovens for warmth.
Sunday’s forecast offers a reprieve, with sunny skies and highs near 62. However, rain chances increase late Sunday night into Monday, with showers likely through midweek as a warming trend pushes highs into the 60s.
Travelers on major roadways like I-40 and I-540 should remain cautious during morning commutes, as icy patches are possible on bridges and overpasses.
Stay updated on local weather alerts and prepare for a cold, crisp weekend by planning outdoor activities during warmer midday hours.
