Boston, Massachusetts – Damaging wind gusts and heavy rain could slam Eastern Massachusetts on Thursday, with gusts up to 50 mph and up to 3 inches of rain threatening travel and coastal flooding from Boston to Nantucket.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, strong easterly winds will push into the region Thursday morning, intensifying along the coast by midday. Gusts between 40–50 mph are expected from Plymouth to Hyannis, with Nantucket seeing the strongest winds near 46 mph. Inland areas like Worcester and Providence will still face gusts in the 30–40 mph range.

Meanwhile, rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are forecast for eastern counties, including Suffolk, Barnstable, and Bristol, with localized amounts near 3 inches possible. The combination of saturated ground and clogged drains could lead to urban street flooding, especially during peak travel hours. Interior regions such as Springfield and Hartford are likely to see 1 to 1.5 inches.

Residents in low-lying coastal zones should secure outdoor items and prepare for brief power outages. Avoid non-essential travel during the heaviest rain and gusts, expected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Wind and flood advisories remain in effect through Thursday night, with additional updates likely as conditions develop.
