Pittsburgh, PA – Damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and large hail could impact southwestern Pennsylvania Wednesday afternoon as a line of marginally severe thunderstorms moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 1 (out of 5) risk for severe storms is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday across southeastern Ohio, southwestern Pennsylvania, and parts of northern West Virginia. The strongest storms could produce wind gusts over 50 mph, small hail, and a few brief tornadoes.

Areas including Pittsburgh, Uniontown, and Washington, PA, as well as Wheeling, WV, and New Philadelphia, OH, fall within the advisory zone. Afternoon and early evening travel could be impacted by sudden downpours and wind damage. Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts, especially those in mobile homes or outdoor work areas.

The marginal classification means confidence is lower for widespread severe weather, but isolated strong storms remain possible. Make sure devices are charged and wireless alerts are enabled in case watches or warnings are issued.

The storm threat ends by late Wednesday evening, but more updates are expected by morning as forecasters refine timing and storm development zones.
